At an elevation of approximately 4,500-feet, Sedona is considered "high desert". The dominant attribute of Sedona's weather is the number of days of sunshine enjoyed by it's residents. Although sumertime daily high temperatures can be quite warm, it is Sedona's elevation that allows for comfortable evening temperatures.
High desert does mean below average humidity, but not arid conditions. Sedona receives precipitation year-around with concentrations in early spring and again in late summer. Sedona does receive snow in the winter months, but it's tenure on the ground is brief.
The summer rain season is referred to as the "Monsoons" as the prevailing winds shift and bring moisture up from the south. The Monsoons can result in thunderstorms or just brief windy conditions without much rain.
